• 10 individual sessions with the adolescent
• 2 individual sessions with one or more caregivers (e.g., a single parent or both parents)
• 2 sessions with the adolescent and caregivers together
• Positive, strengths-based intervention that seeks to increase the family, social, and educational/vocational reinforcers to support recovery
• Uses cognitive behavioral therapy
• Procedures include problem-solving skills, communication skills, and active participation in positive social and recreational activities with the goal of improving life satisfaction and eliminating alcohol and substance use problems
